Caring for your Caribou Jewellery

  • Try to protect all jewellery from scratches, rough treatment and chemicals.

  • Storing your jewellery separately helps your pieces not scratch each other.

  • Storing your Jewellery in an airtight container, such as a re-sealable plastic bag, a cloth bag and/or an airtight jewellery box helps keep it clean and shiny. The less air and light your silver is exposed to when you aren't wearing it, the less tarnish will occur. As a natural material, silver reacts with its environment, especially the chemicals in the air and, over time, silver does become tarnished. This doesn’t mean that your fabulous new piece of jewellery is defective, far from it, it just proves that your beautiful accessory is good quality silver.

  • Remember to remove jewellery when doing domestic tasks such as gardening, cleaning, DIY, cooking or other strenuous activities.

  • Try applying make-up, scent and hair products before putting on your jewellery.  These all contain chemicals that will affect the way your jewellery keeps.

  • Do not wear jewellery while swimming, bathing, showering or at the spa. The chlorine or salt in the water can damage various gemstones, metals including gold and the heat in the water may loosen the strong, stretchy elastic.

  • Frequent cleaning is recommended to maintain your jewellery’s true beauty.

  • Gently clean your gemstone jewellery in tepid soapy water, using a soft bristle toothbrush to gently clean the surface.  Avoid harder bristled brushes and use a soft cloth to dry the piece.

  • Gently polish your  silver and gold  jewellery with a silver polishing cloth which you can purchase from most supermarkets.

  • Take Extra Care when cleaning your gold vermeil jewellery as the plating is a surface finish so it can be susceptible to wear.  Make sure it is stored separately from other jewellery  and polish very gently with a silver polishing cloth.  If cleaned and stored properly signs of wearing should only occur over a long period of time.

  • Earring tops and studs should be treated gently and regularly check that butterflies and fittings sit securely.
  • We recommend that all of our Stretch Bracelets are restrung annually or when the silicon elastic seems to be loosening in order to prevent them from breaking. There is a small charge of £10 for this service and this can be done by sending your bracelet in to us at Caribou Jewellery, Pink Cottage, Water Run, Hitcham, Ipswich, Suffolk IP77LN.  If you choose to send your bracelet into us please do so by signed for delivery and include a covering letter and please note that there will be a postage and packaging charge.
